Assessment
A clear picture,
properly evidenced.
Neurodevelopmental assessment is a defined piece of work with a beginning and an end. Scope and objectives are agreed before it starts, the testing is chosen to answer your specific question, and what you get back is a report that explains what is going on and what would help.

The process
How an assessment runs.
Every assessment follows the same shape, though the number of sessions depends on the scope agreed at the start.
- 01
Referral and scoping
It starts with a conversation about what the assessment needs to answer. Scope, sessions and total cost are agreed before anything is booked — no open-ended engagements.
- 02
Intake with a caregiver
A dedicated appointment covering developmental, medical, family and school history. This is where the picture starts, and it usually happens without your child present.
- 03
Input from school
With your consent, standardised rating scales go to teachers. Behaviour that only shows up in a classroom is easy to miss in a clinic room, and school data carries real diagnostic weight.
- 04
Testing sessions
Completed in person, and split across sessions where that suits your child better than one long sitting. Aley travels to complete assessments, and can attend school where that has been arranged with them.
- 05
Scoring and interpretation
Scoring, integration of every source, and the analytical work of reconciling what the testing, the history and the school reports each say.
- 06
Report and feedback
A feedback session walking through what was found in plain language, and a written report you keep — including recommendations written so a school can act on them.
Practicalities
The things worth
knowing first.
- Fees
- Assessments are charged at an hourly rate of $260, and you are given a total before you commit. What the hours cover, and how rebates work, is set out on fees and Medicare.
- Where
- Assessments are completed in person — usually at the consulting rooms at Office 3, 88 Wilkinson Drive, Echuca. Aley also travels to carry out assessments, and can attend your child's school where that suits the referral and has been arranged with the school directly.
- Referrals
- No referral is needed to enquire. GPs, paediatricians and schools are welcome to refer directly, and where a multidisciplinary picture is indicated Aley works alongside your paediatrician, GP or speech pathologist rather than in isolation. Wellbeing staff referring a student can use the school referral form.
